Portlands Gas Plant Pollution: Forum on Health Risks in the Community
Ralph Thornton Community Centre / 765 Queen St. E.
Toronto East Residents For Renewable Energy (TERRE) is hosting an upcoming community forum about health risks from the Portlands Energy Centre (PEC) on May 15th. PEC is the largest source of harmful airborne nitrogen oxides and greenhouse gasses in Toronto and the provincial government wants to expand its output capacity.
The event will feature several speakers including:
Paula Fletcher, Toronto-Danforth City Councillor and Peter Tabuns, MPP for Toronto-Danforth who will speak about municipal and provincial issues.
Dr. Mili Roy from Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) who will address the health impacts of the gas plant.
There will also be a discussion about current and future community actions around the proposed PEC expansion. As well, other local health and environmental groups will be on hand to share information about their work and climate action you can take.
Come on May 15th and learn more about the plant’s impacts and how the community can work together to get it shut down and ramp up alternative sources of energy.
