Earth Hour 2009
Green 13 is building on the success of Earth Hour 2008 by working with a number of community partners to organize several events to mark Earth Hour this year, held on March 28, from 8:30 - 9:30 pm.
While our plans may be fairly ambitious, climate change is an issue that requires a fair amount of ambition. We are encouraging even more individuals, families and businesses to participate in events, contribute to the discussions we will be having on climate change and energy use and advocate for action at the local, national and international level.
Some of the events we are planning or promoting include:
Two candle-light walks (encouraging businesses to participate by turning down their lights) to mark Earth Hour
One along Bloor Street West (Bloor West Village)
One along Dundas Street West (The Junction)
Supporting Earth Hour events in High Park
A joint community reception to be held following the various Earth Hour events
An “Inorganic Market” to be held the Saturday before Earth Hour (March 21st) in the No Frills parking lot on Bloor Street West
A Town Hall meeting on nuclear energy at Swansea Town Hall
A screening of a topical film
A community bike ride
We will also be distributing information to schools and neighbourhood groups including a calendar of community events and tip sheets on environmental sustainability.
Stay tuned for more information. Our next planning meeting is February 17th. For more information or to get involved, please contact Christopher Holcroft at 416-760-8557.
