WORKING TOGETHER TO SAVE THE GREAT LAKES

Green 13 thanks Nicola Crawhall, local treasure and Deputy Director of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, for her most informative talk at Swansea Town Hall on Thursday, January 21 ‘16. Nicola highlighted 5 matters of great concern in our Great Lakes: 1- Waukesha, and grave concern about water diversion out of the Great Lakes basin; 2- microbeads; 3- Asian carp; 4- phosphorus loadings and toxic algae; 5- climate change, the threat multiplier. She outlined the collaboration of 120 municipalities on both sides of the border in addressing these problems, as well as what we, as concerned citizens, can do. Rounding out the big picture, attendees heard from Paul Baines of Great Lakes Commons Initiative. See GreatLakesCommons.org and GreatLakesCommonsMap.org

Special thanks to Swansea Town Hall for providing the venue for this informative public event.
